Firewood Restrictions for 2010
August 20th 2010

New firewood restrictions are now in place at Falls Reserve Conservation Area. In an effort to protect local forests from insect pests firewood from outside the County of Huron may NOT be brought into the park. Firewood from regulated or quarantined areas will be strictly prohibited from entering the park. Ash species wood with the bark still on it will also be prohibited. Only firewood from the local area will be allowed into the park.

Gatehouse staff may ask where your firewood has come from and request that it is turned over for immediate disposal. Anyone found inside the park with with firewood from infected ot regulated areas will be required to dispose of it immediately and may be reported to the Canadian Food Inspection Agency.

This initiative is being undertaken to protect local forests from invasive tree pests such as the Emerald Ash Borer and the Asian Long-Horned Beetle. Dormant insects or eggs can be moved in firewood from infested tress.

FRCA staff strongly prefer that campers purchase their firewood from the park office instead of bringing it in from other locations. The firewood sold in the park is guaranteed to come from uncontaminated sources.

FRCA staff would like to apologize for any inconvenience this new restriction causes but the long term health of our forests is at stake.
