The Maitland Valley Conservation Authority owns and manages 28 properties encompassing over 1,800 hectares (4,500 acres). These lands range from environmentally sensitive areas such as the Blind Lake Bog and Saratoga Swamp, to small day use areas such as Gorrie Conservation Area. This diversity reflects the multiple functions of conservation lands.

Conservation Areas play a vital role in the protection of significant natural features such as wetlands, headwater areas and forests. These lands also provide habitat for rare plants, animals and ecosystems. For example, the Black Redhorse (fish), Wood Turtle and Queen Snake are all found in our Conservation Areas. Equally important, conservation lands give visitors the opportunity to enjoy and learn from the natural environment, and provide a setting for a wide range of recreational activities. Property and trail maps are available for several of our Conservation Areas. Hunting is permitted on designated properties.
